Chelmsford City Council run by the Liberal Democrats has imposed a £60 charge for one brown bin and an additional £30 for a second bin (£90 for two bins) on its residents which has been in place since March of 2025 to run until February of 2026. The brown bins are for garden waste.
This exorbitant charge is making living in Chelmsford less attractive at a time when living costs are at an all time high. This effectively means Chelmsford residents are paying more council tax (paying more for the services the council provides).
When the Conservatives were in power until 2019, this brown bin collection service was free. It is clear that Chelmsford residents can barely afford the Liberal Democrat run council. Parking charges up, museum visits prices up, Crematorium use up and now brown bins. This is all due to the council not being prudent with its finances.
Chelmsford residents should make the right choice by voting for the Conservative Party on May 1, 2025 with the by-elections coming up in the Moulsham Central Division (one vacant County Councillor) and the Moulsham & Central Ward of Chelmsford (two vacant Ward Councillors).
It is time to save Chelmsford from high costs of living. Let’s save Chelmsford.
